LUMIÈRE

ABOUT lumi.

Lumi comes from lumière, the French word for light. Lumi creates her work to shed light on the corners of her mind and the collective consciousness, and to bring a sense of peace or, at the very least, a space for contemplation.

STATEMENT

Through her studio practice, Lumi focuses on creating compositions that reflect what is visible and invisible in the world, whether it exists in present, or just a manifestation of the mind. Her work exhibits ideas from nostalgia and spirituality, to studying aspects of the human form and exploring the internal self. She focuses on the expression of identity and emotion against the loss and rediscovery of oneself.

Lumi is greatly captivated and challenged by the changes that one’s experiences, surrounding environment, and personal background can have in relation to their internal self. The present unfolds indefinitely, as she attempts to embody the illusion of time throughout each piece.

PAST & PRESENT

"Memory, connecting inconceivable mystery to inconceivable mystery, performs the impossible by the strength of her divine arms; holds together past and present,—beholding both,—existing in both . . . and gives continuity and dignity to human life."

—Ralph Waldo Emerson
