La Période Bleue
Lumi spent 18 months painting only with the color blue. Throughout this time she explored her connection to the color through her femininity, relating to the transcendence of the human form as well as the divine power of the moon.
The exploration and discovery of self is but a nostalgic, endless unraveling. Lumi gracefully explores her story of the past and future through the present meditation with self. Her visions become the guidance that inform the profound moments, weaving seamlessly into each composition.
The present unfolds indefinitely, as she attempts to embody the illusion of time throughout each piece- at times rather surreal landscapes become a space to contemplate, and others, higher forms of abstraction take the forefront of her work.
I hesitate to say that I’m a painter.
I have yet to make a masterpiece,
I still have yet to master myself.
To master my mind in all of its shades and hues.
To learn the edges of my soul
before I can translate its perspective onto canvas.
I hesitate to say I am a painter
because lately everything looks blue
and my hands feel see-through.

Inspired by Dick Termes using his 6-point perspective system he developed in 1968 as well as the book Through Two Doors at Once by Anil Ananthaswamy. The Blue Moon, the ticking clock, and two doors parallel in dimensions. The self explores the corridors, dancing with the present moment that endlessly unfolds between the two. On a path of discovery and rediscovery, bounded by space and time, released by alignment with divine higher self.
